Astoria: josephson's smoked fish

Heading southward along the coast now, but I must stop for delicious local delicacies.

Astoria: astoria-megler bridge

Just past North Bend Oregon's lumbermills and sawdust factories. North Bend smells like wet Home Depot.

Astoria: astoria riverfront trolley

Historic trollies. Just like Mr. Roger's neighborhood. I did not take the trolly because those puppets scare me. Especially that hideously ugly drunken lady puppet living inside the spinning cylinder.

Astoria: cannery

Iron boilers remain after cannery fires. They're now cool interactive sculptures for seagulls.
Astoria: pier

More remnants of a cannery fire. This is totally cool.

Hoodie raincoat day. No cap or condom hat.
Altadena: smoked fish

I couldn't resist. I must sample deliciousness.

Highway 101

Missed out on most of the beach scenery due to rainy conditions. Phooey. Lots of tiny beach towns. Full of galleries that are, in turn, full of really bad art. And they all have the same stuff.
Highway 101

I like trains.

Tillamook: cheese factory

So excited. Two of my favorite things in the world combined in a single place. Conveyor belts and cheese. Yippee!
Tillamook: cheese factory

These are embryonic blocks of cheddar. Baby cheese!

Tillamook: cheese factory

Conveyor belts of cheese. I'm giddy.

You can give an orca a bath in this tub.

Tillamook: cheese factory

I love squeaky cheese in the tasting area. The ice cream is marionberry pie flavor. "Oregon Marionberry ripple in vanilla ice cream, with flaky piecrust pieces." I chose it because the name sounded like former Washington D.C. coke'd out mayor Marion Barry.
Tillamook: cheese factory

Junior Miss Rodeo Oregon 2005 has a bright future ahead of her hawking blocks of cheese.

Tillamook: cheese factory

I spent 5 minutes trying to emulate the cow's expression. The other patrons had different expressions on their faces.
Oregon Jams and Jellies
Altadena: berries

Assorted Oregon berry jams and honey. I've been wondering what the heck huckleberries were since I was a 4 years old watching Huckleberry Hound cartoons. Now I get to find out.
South Beach State Park: yurt

Flipping through tons of Oregon camping information, I halted at the word "yurt." I MUST stay in a yurt by the ocean. My yurt "Coquille" is named after an Oregon indian tribe. Yurt.

I want my own yurt in the backyard. I wonder if they sell yurts at www.yurts.com?

South Beach State Park: yurt

It's really cozy and neato inside the yurt. This size yurt can accommodate orgies of 8. I'm in the top bunk of course.

Tuna with red curry and lemongrass rice pilaf
South Beach State Park

Tonight's festivities include red curry tuna with lemongrass scented rice pilaf. The gay couple, Fat and Ugly, two yurts over borrowed my wine opener but did not offer to share any wine. How rude. They must not have thought I was cute. (Yes, I packed both my laptop and wine opener.)
