Venice: chinese restaurant

Loosely translated, sea city restaurant. Why you would be eating Chinese food in Venice, I have no clue. Familiarity I guess. So much delicious local food. Though, I can't imagine the Chinese food to be all that bad. It is, after all, Italy. Fresh seafood, produce. Can't be all bad.

Venice: lost in thought

Statue of philosopher lost in thought. The man sitting at the base is just lost.

Venice: marketplace

This is how the food gets to the market.

Venice: roof tops

A sudden urge to burst out in song and dance- with an English accent. Chim chimmeney. Chimm chimmeney. Chim Chim Chereee.

Venice: piazza san marco

Nancy poisoning pigeons in the park.

Venice: piazza san marco: cafe florian

No matter how many of these cocktail florians I drink, I still don't feel like Hemingway. And the sketching skills deteriorated very quickly.

Venice: piazza san marco: cafe florian

Nothing like pigeon poo and air pollution to add patina to a building.

Venice: piazza san marco: cafe florian

When the band is playing, they add an extra charge to the bill. Needless to say, the band is almost always playing.
Venice: piazza san marco

Birds in flight.
Gave a fright.
What a sight.
Think I might,
Need a bite.
Such a plight.

Venice

Sardines. And Venice's white polenta.
April 2 9:04pm
Venice

Scallops, with grilled white Venetian polenta. I think I see a pattern here.
April 2 9:21pm
Venice

Squid ink pasta. There really isn't a way to make this look better, but tasty. They made your teeth black for a while too.
April 2 9:21pm
Venice

Pasta ala vongole. Large tasty juicy vongoles at that.
April 2 9:50pm
Venice

Assorted seafood. With white polenta.

Venice

Entree of fried baby items. Baby artichokes and baby soft shell crabs. Delicious. Also with some grilled white polenta.

Venice

Tiramisu. Surprised there wasn't white polenta in there.
Venice: novicento hotel

The Pope died while I was packing.
April 3 3:17am
Venice: airport

Sunrise at the Venice airport. I believe we were the first ones to arrive there. Nothing was open. Not even a Hot Dog on a Stick.
April 3 5:59am
Wallet
Milan: airport

Half an hour to our connecting flight, plus a pocketful of loose euro coins, when we suddenly realized our stash did not include any Italian leather goods. Sadly, this wallet is sized for the larger Euro sized bills rather than the relatively smaller American dollars. Now I feel perpetually poorer. Which is the reality also.
Glass weapons
Milan: airport

These glass pencils got flagged at airport security. They could be used as weapons. But the security folk let me through onto the plane anyway. Bless that lax Italian security. Actually, good folk. Quite understanding. Good for tourism.
April 3 2:53pm (Chicago)
Chicago: o'hare

Back in our own wonderful country, I find myself starving. Getting reacclimated to our national food again- McDonalds. Aie! Airport food.
Lost luggage redux
Altadena: bedroom

They've managed to lose my luggage on the way home too. I think I'm cursed. They didn't even have the glass pencil weapons in them.
Altadena: kitchen

License plate carrier is slated to be mounted on the refrigerator for magnets to stick on. Refrigerator brochures don't mention that magnets don't stick to stainless steel.
License to Grill
I think he lost
Burbank: office

Mayoral poster framed and ready to be hung. Many inquisitive head peeped in my door.

On the rocks
Altadena: tom lehrer cd's

Thanks Bob. Thanks Sheila. Thanks Alex. Love the Tom Lehrer.

Altadena: liquor stash

I still like it. Hard to find in Southern California though.
Altadena: shiny baubles

Glass baubles from Murano. Utterly useless. But shiny.

Roman ties

Venetian ties

Arcadia: parents' house

Mean postcard sent from the Vatican. Very spooky and slightly creepy since the Pope passed away while the postcard was in transit to Dad's mailbox.
Pope Stamp
Safe keeping
Altadena: closet

Mouth blown glass cups stored in the closet for safe keeping until the house renovation is done. Will these ever be used?
