Sketch Book: the moleskine of Italy
My preferred kind of sketchbook traces it's lineage to Italy, via an art store in Pasadena. But I only realized that tidbit while I was sketching a rock in Paestum. I happened to flip to the inside cover, trying to sqoosh a bug, and noticed a made in Italy label. Reproduced based upon sketchbooks and notebooks from two centuries ago, the manufacturer claims this sketch book design was a favorite of Van Gogh, Picasso, Hemingway, and other famous artists, intellectuals, and alcoholics. Heck, I just liked it for the elastic band keeping it shut. But apparently, I'm in the good company of the drunk, the insane, and the clinically depressed. |
